Exporting poll results

PDF, Word, Excel or CSV — what each export contains, who can download it, and why the number you quote should come from a file.

The four formats

Every poll can be exported from its results page as PDF for a printable record, Word for a report you will edit, Excel for further analysis, or CSV for anything else. Each file contains the question, the options, the vote counts and the percentages.

Who can export

Exports follow the same rule as results. If results are hidden until the poll ends, the export is unavailable to everyone except the creator until then; a public poll with visible results can be exported by anyone.

Which format to pick

  • PDF — a meeting handout or an archived record of the final numbers.
  • Word — a written report where you add commentary around the table.
  • Excel — sorting, filtering and pivoting the numbers yourself.
  • CSV — importing into another tool or a shared spreadsheet.

An export is a frozen snapshot

The file records the numbers at the moment you clicked. On a poll that is still open they keep moving, so export again before quoting a figure, and put the poll link next to the numbers so readers can check the current state.

Long and image polls

Polls with many options run over several pages in PDF; Excel and CSV keep them in a single sheet. Image options are exported by their titles, not as embedded pictures, so a PDF of an image poll links out rather than showing thumbnails.
