Every poll setting, explained

A reference to the switches in the poll editor: what each one changes for voters, and which ones are worth thinking about twice.

Poll type and content mode

Poll type decides how many options one voter may pick: single choice for an exclusive decision, multiple choice for shortlists and preference lists. Content mode decides what the options are made of — plain text, or a title plus an image. Switching content mode after writing options means re-entering them, so decide this first.

Options: bulk paste, shuffle and “Other”

Bulk Paste turns a pasted list into options: one per line, with leading numbers and bullets removed. Presets start you from a common question (lunch, meeting time, agree/disagree) and replace the current title and options. Shuffle option order randomises what each voter sees, which removes the first-option advantage in long lists.

In text mode you can add an “Other” choice, letting voters type a free answer. It appears in the results like any other option, so keep it for polls where a write-in is plausible rather than a catch-all.

Duration, start and end

Start immediately, or schedule a start date and time. The end can be 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month or 3 months, or open-ended. A scheduled poll shows a countdown instead of options until it opens; once it ends, voting stops and the results stay online.

Votes per person and max selections

Votes per person (1 to 100) is how many times a single voter may vote in the poll. Max selections caps how many options may be ticked inside one multiple-choice vote, where 0 means no cap. The two are easy to confuse: one controls repeats, the other controls breadth.

Visibility, results and anonymity

A public poll can appear in Discover and in public lists; a private one is reachable only through its link. Show results publicly either reveals the tally during voting or keeps it to the creator until the poll ends. Anonymous voting lets people vote without an account — the default, and usually the reason response rates are high.

Embedding and captcha

Allow embedding makes the poll available as an iframe on other sites; turning it off makes that frame show a notice while the normal link keeps working. When the site is configured with Cloudflare Turnstile, the create form also shows a captcha to keep automated polls out.
